A simple tool to prioritize your time so you can get things done!

Time management is such a simple concept. We all have the same 24 hours every day. All you have to do is set aside a certain number of those hours to complete a selected set of tasks.

That sounds great in theory, but you live in the real world.

You juggle projects, customer inquiries, sales, marketing, and regular recurring tasks, interspersed with moments of panic when you have to drop everything to deal with the latest crisis.

Add in family responsibilities and it becomes pretty obvious why so many of us struggle with time management.

This was my reality until I stepped away from my to-do list and took a long look at how I managed my time.

I tried all the popular systems like Getting Things Done (GTD), time blocking, and the Pomodoro Method, but nothing really clicked until I developed a stress-free strategy that combined components of all three with a few of my own ideas.

The Weekly Planner is a one-page time management tool for prioritizing tasks and allocating resources so you can keep projects moving forward — even on those days when it feels like one interruption after another.

Why does it work?

The Weekly Planner gives you a snapshot of your week with sections to identify your top three priorities, a calendar to block time for tasks, and an Eisenhower matrix to help you identify which items require your immediate attention and which you can automate, delegate, or delete. (You’ll be amazed by how much of your day falls into that “delete” category.)

One reason other systems didn’t work for me was because they were too much work.

It felt like the system became all-encompassing and I ended up spending so much time managing buckets I didn’t have enough left to actually get anything done.

With that in mind, I identified the key components of a functional time management strategy and created a simple system to manage them.

  • Focus on the most important tasks
  • Automate, delegate, schedule, or delete tasks
  • Set aside a little bit of time for each activity

Once I did these three things, I discovered I could manage regular recurring tasks, unexpected interruptions, and still allocate enough time to my priority tasks to keep my projects moving forward.

It wasn’t a one-off, either. Week after week, I blocked off time for my top three priorities and still had plenty left to handle all the other essential, but less urgent, tasks. Instead of stressing about all the things that didn’t get done, I was finding time to take care of everything. Without adding hours to my work day!

If this sounds like something that will help you, give it a try.
